Mission
Youth for Science Foundation has been created with a mission to target Tunisian girls and boys at the mid and high school levels to awaken their consciousness and captivate their attention to the beauty of the world of Science, and cause the trigger for those curious and passionate among them to move forward on conducting research projects responding to their passion and hopefully solving burning needs of their communities. By doing so, the foundation wish to create a useful trend in science activities occupying aware and passionate kids, and through them to pave the way for the creation of a new generation of creative scientists and innovative entrepreneurs able to meet the challenges of their nation in term of sustainable development while raising the scientific literacy rate of Tunisia to the standards of developed countries.
Ways and Means
The foundation will be working on 5 axes to reach its Goal :
First and foremost : Solid Science Background
Provide interested pupils, with after-school science workshops on the fundamentals of science and science principals and their uses and applications in a very practical way. The Foundation is willing to create national Science competitions and collaborate to introduce international ones non operational in Tunisia yet, such as the Olymiads in Physics, Chemsitry, Biology etc…
Second : Good Communication Skills
Training involved teens on communication skills in general and scientific theme in particular, with their engagement in series of programs encouraging pupils to speak to the public, to participate in scientific debates, to animate science and technology workshops, to compete on best science talk, and to participate in science programs meant for raising awareness on science activities for kids and science popularization for older fellows
Third : Mastering the Research Protocol
With the support of Senior Researchers, Kids will be trained on all the chain of good research methodology and good standards or protocols : namely problem identification, understanding problem surrounding, analyzing the litterature on the subject, other resaerchers trial and errors in providing solutions, tracks for better solution, first testing, lessons and adjustement, etc…till validation all in accordance with International standards.
Fourth : Competing with Peers
Daring competing with peers is key in order to assess the boys and girls knowledge in science knowledge, research approch and skills in communication…It also confront his or her ability to defend his beleive or her work and ways of convincing peers. Conducting such an exercice at such a very early age is considered by many experts as a seeding for a leadership attitude in the future, in such a complex field as scientific resarch.
The Foundation supports indeed outstanding individuals and teams by allowing them to participate in contests, fairs, conferences and/or any kind of national and most importantly international science research competitions to face international competition with brilliant youngsters of their age, from around the world. This will give laureats of the national fairs a chance to start networking with peers worldwide.
Fifth : Backing their Access to Best Universities
It is the cherry on the cake. The foundation helps the best pupils among the laureats in international competitions to apply for admission to the best universities worldwide. Backing brilliant pupils who excel in their projects is key to fructify the pupils endeavours so far and to allow them to further develop their research capabilities in a much better environment with as talented and passionate peers from around the world.
The Foundation is willing to follow-up with them once at the university as well, particularly if it concerns the creation of their own technology driven Start-Up. Such outcome is highly encouraged by the Foundation through its partners Labs, Incubators, Mentors and Investors both in Tunisia and elsewhere.
